Last weekend’s Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park — a concert aimed at catalyzing a movement to end extreme poverty, featuring Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, the Black Keys and K’Naan, which was attended by more than 60,000 — was a resounding success, eliciting a staggering $1.3 billion in pledges of funding. Backstage at the event, Billionaire.com chairman and co-founder David Leppan detailed the factors that convinced him to back the Global Citizen Festival and its organiser, the Global Poverty Project (led by charismatic young anti-poverty activist, Hugh Evans) with a $1 million contribution.
