The base palette of brown, deep reds and pink was offset with highlights of oranges and greens. These accent colours were added as patent lapels on dresses to update the look and while the feeling was demure, it was still sexy. Mink coats were deliberately vintage looking, possibly your grandmother’s? Shaggy fur tippets formed ruffs around necks and shearlings were shaved to resemble towelling.
Cristobal Balenciaga would have approved of the Catholic feeling of the final few dresses in pink, with their decorative snowflakes delicately applied. If nuns did eveningwear then this would be it. The footwear focused on the ankle boots — with part deco sun-motif, part ’70s glam, sporting matt/shine stripes in orange, white and green.
Understatement rippled through this collection and while Ilincic’s woman doesn’t shout ‘look at me’, you can’t help but see her. Beautiful clothes.
