A Look Inside Billionaire’s Journey Issue

The Journey Issue

Take a look through Billionaire’s Journey Issue, available for subscription here.

In this issue we speak to Jimmy Carter and Dr Auma Obama about their philanthropic initiatives, and journey to extraordinary locations, including Marfa, Reykjavik, Kenya and Antarctica.

Whether it’s an epic adventure holiday or simply a trip to the shops, we make journeys every day. We think about how we are going to get there, what we will need, and, of course, how we will return home.

But rarely do we consider our most important journey: the one we started at birth and the only one with an ending we can’t plan. What do we want our bigger picture to look like? What footprints will we leave behind? If we could write a postcard describing our lives, what would it say?

In this issue of Billionaire we look at journeys experienced through different lenses, physical, entrepreneurial and spiritual.

Like our interview with former US President Jimmy Carter. For most people, becoming their nation’s leader would be the achievement of a lifetime, but for Carter, now aged 92, it was just the start of an extraordinary career dedicated to philanthropy.

Epic adventures run through this issue’s core, as we journey to the small Texan town of Marfa to meet a community of Western legends full of amazing stories. In Antarctica we see whales, penguins and seals from the comfort of an ice-classed superyacht, then take a trip to Reykjavik to wonder at Iceland’s other-worldly terrains and bohemian city style.

At Sissinghurst Garden in Kent, UK, we enjoy a cup of Earl Grey with head gardener Troy Scott Smith, who is recreating former owner and poet Vita Sackville-West’s wild, romantic style.

Our cover features the extraordinary work of photography veteran Jimmy Nelson, who dedicated seven years to documenting the world’s indigenous cultures. He describes a more sustainable approach to life learned from these peoples.

The saying goes that life is about the journey, not the destination. But considering our destination might help us achieve the legacy we would want written on that postcard.
