Mark Weingard, who survived the 2004 tsunami in Phuket, built Iniala after his home was devastated by the catastrophe. Guests are invited to visit the Home & Life Orphanage, which provides shelter and care to children devastated by the tsunami, supported by The Inspirasia Foundation, set up by Weingard 10 years ago.
Facing the sparkling Andaman Sea, Iniala Beach House comprises three, whimsically designed three-bedroom villas and a penthouse suite where Kim Kardashian once stayed. Opened in 2013, each room at Iniala Beach House is a hallucinogenic display of furnishings and design by carpenter Joseph Walsh of Ireland, Thailand’s Eggarat Wongcharit, and Mark Brazier-Jones, whose work inspired much of the set in Fifty Shades Of Grey.
In contrast, a barefoot-walk along Natai Beach leads you to the four-villa Iniala Shores, which are more minimalist in style. As the newest expansion of Iniala’s luxury accommodation in Phuket, the palatial Shores villas have five bedrooms, a private infinity pool, and all the comforts an abundance of unobtrusive-yet-friendly staff can provide.
Spacious, high-ceiling living areas are perfect for bigger families or sophisticated gatherings. Iniala Shores’ precise positioning makes for an elegant beach retreat, with sand and sun lapping at the feet of an expensive outdoor lounge area.
We enjoyed an alfresco breakfast, overlooking waves that reached heights of about 2m. Settled on the outdoor table were an array of bread, freshly made by baker David Inglada at the nearby in-house bakery kitchen. There was also coconut juice, a plate of Parma ham and cheese, and a bowl of locally sourced mushrooms pan-seared to perfection.
A signature treatment to try in the comfort of your villa’s own spa room is the rehydration facial, which uses all-natural Thai yogurt, cucumber and honey. Other personalised services include deliciously prepared morning-to-night in-villa meals of traditional Thai or modern Mediterranean dishes, and VIP transportation to anywhere in Phuket.
The villas at Iniala Shores are available now to book from January 2017 onwards. For more details, visit www.iniala.com.
