Hotels That Rock Their Own Boat

Get onboard with our selection of the finest hotels and resorts with their own private seafaring vessel.

The Mark Hotel, New York

The restored (and updated) 70ft Herreshoff-designed Ventura was originally commissioned in 1919 and launched in early 1921. Meticulously restored to its original high finish, yet with stylish additions that are synonymous with the Upper East Side’s iconic Mark Hotel – it offers a floating extension of the Jacques Grange-designed hotel’s luxurious aesthetic. While taking in the incredible views of Manhattan’s skyline, enjoy cocktails, wine, and delicacies from the Mark’s resident Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The Mark is available to hotel guests for private charter from June 1st, from $5,000 for a two-hour sail, available for up to 25 people.

Soneva in Aqua

Soneva in Aqua is now sailing from its flagship resort, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives. The ultra-luxurious yacht measures 19.25 metres in length and accommodates four adults and two children. The spacious main cabin has a glass bottom spa and shower facilities, and there is an external raised sun and dining deck, a lower level bar and dining area plus daybeds, lounge seating and a bow jacuzzi. The design features natural materials such as rich brown leathers, woods and organic cottons, and the engines have been built to the highest specification with regards to fuel saving efficiency. Guests can explore three of the most beautiful Atolls in the country: The Baa Atoll, the Raa Atoll and the Noonu Atoll, to see dolphins, sharks, turtles and manta rays.

Six Senses Zighy Bay, Oman

Set sail on an Oman cruise aboard an authentic Omani dhow. Inspired by the word, dhahab, which means golden in Arabic, this handcrafted vessel is reminiscent of the golden age of Arabian voyages as it cruises the rugged Musandam fjords at a comfortable 10 knots. Keeping a sense with the hotel’s rustic design, which combines Middle-Eastern charm with barefoot luxury, Dhahab hosts up to six guests in three well-appointed cabins (one king and two twins), and is perfect for families or a group of friends looking for something out of the ordinary. Setting sail from the stunning resort, Dhahab explores the coast of Musandam where the Hajar Mountains tower over quaint fishing villages, stopping to rest along the way in secluded bays bursting with marine life. Time can be spent kayaking, fishing, beach combing, swimming or doing absolutely nothing. There are also options to take a cooking class with the chef, book a bespoke dive or bring a spa therapist on board. Bespoke two-night itineraries start from US$22,000.

The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia

Explore Malaysia’s Langkawi Archipelago aboard the Datai’s resort’s junk schooner Naga Pelangi (meaning ’Rainbow Dragon’). The 30 metre schooner was hand-built by its Captain with a team of shipwrights in the boat yards of Duyong Island in Terengganu on the east coast of Malaysia using only local Chengal wood. The boat is available for exclusive charter direct from the resort’s Datai Bay to explore Langkawi’s shimmering seas and captivating coastline. Choose from a selection of bespoke cruises – including private charters – and appreciate Langkawi’s beauty from a maritime-heritage inspired vantage point. A charming touch of nostalgia for your holiday.

Four Seasons, Explorer

The Four Seasons Explorer is a 39-metre three-deck, liveaboard luxury catamaran accommodating a maximum of 22 guests. All-inclusive itineraries include a chance to explore the exotic atolls, exciting channels and wrecks, sunrise and night dive sites as well as seasonal manta ray and whale shark hot spots. Embark on three, four and seven-night cruises, or private, customised charters. Cruises offer unique opportunities to snorkel, waterski, fish, kayak, surf and sail in virtually untouched waters. You can also spend time with the resident marine biologist and visit remote arts-and-crafts villages and castaway isles. Savour gourmet cuisine and relax with beachfront barbecues, massages on idyllic sandbanks and sunset cocktails in a secluded locale.

Amanwana, Indonesia

Amanwana (part of the Aman resorts collection) is the only resort located on the lush Indonesian island of Moyo, a marine and nature reserve just north of Sumbawa and an ideal setting to explore the realm of the Komodo dragons, the storied Spice Islands, and the underwater kingdoms of Raja Ampat and the Flores Sea. Climb volcanoes, dive with mantas and bask in rose-hued sunsets from the decks of the resort’s own custom-made flagship expedition vessels - Amanikan and Amandira, which regularly host multi-day excursions to Rinca and Komodo Islands as well as the beautiful archipelago of Raja Ampat. These two traditional Indonesian vessels are also available to be booked exclusively, and their dedicated crews include a private chef and dive master.
